Seasonal RV Sites & Monthly Cabin Rates

Monday, November 9th, 2009

Due to past requests from our guests and other interest from passersby over the last couple years, Thunder Lake Lodge is going to open their RV sites to seasonal rentals for the 2010 resorting season.  There will still only be 3 select spots available for next season.  If anyone is interested in information on the sites, please give us a call.  We are hoping that because of the limited availability, the spots will fill up fast.

Also starting in 2010, TLL will be offering monthly rates for cottages and condos during off-peak seasons.  Specific monthly rates will vary based upon the unit and time of the year.  Please call for details

Timberwolf Sighting

Friday, September 11th, 2009

Back in early August, our guests in Cottage #7 had an extraordinarily rare encounter on their drive back from town on County Road #7, only a couple miles away from Thunder Lake Lodge.  One person in the car pointed out the gray wolf on the side of the road.  So they got as close as they thought they could get to take a picture.  After taking the first photo, they decided to try get a little closer and get an even better photo.  Amazingly, the wolf did not run as they approached closer.  Apparently, the wolf didn’t really pay much attention to them.  I still have yet to see a wolf myself, although I know there are plenty in the area as our deer hunters in November see them quite frequently.

Thanks for the photos, Dolan family!

Kids Fishing Contest Results (9-3-09)

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

It’s hard to believe that summer is over already, but the weather was fantastic for the participants in the final Thunder Lake Lodge Kids Fishing Contest of 2009.  The contest commenced last Thursday with 7 contestants showing off their angling skills for one last time off the docks.  Here are the results:

Jacob from Cottage #7 caught the biggest fish of the day.  It was a 7  1/2″ rock bass.

Lyndsey A. from Cottage #7 caught the smallest fish, which was a 4  1/2″ sunfish.

Sydney from Cottage #10 caught the most fish.  She caught 7 total fish.

Congratulations to all the contestants who participated throughout the summer.  We look forward to to having all of you in next year’s contests.

Kids Fishing Contest Results (8-20-09)

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

Mother nature brought rain with her for last week’s kids fishing contest, but that didn’t stop 6 brave and persistent kids from trying their luck off the TLL docks.  Here are the results:

Isaac from Cottage #11 caught a sunfish measuring 3 3/8″.  It was the smallest of the day.

Noah from Cottage #11 caught the most fish.  He totaled 10 fish.

Caleb from Cottage #11 caught the biggest fish.  It was a 7 1/2″ perch.

It should also be noted that Santino, Michael and Jerah were all first-time anglers who did a great job catching a lot of fish between the 3 of them.

Thanks again to all the participants.

Thunder Lake Lodge Fishing Report (8-16-09)

Sunday, August 16th, 2009

I don’t know about you, but my gauge for when the “dog days” of summer officially arrive is not when the weather becomes really hot, humid and sticky.  For me, it’s when the fishing action takes a dive (although I realize they are usually both related).  While the fishing off the docks for the kids has continued to produce lots of fish, general fishing action over the last few weeks has slowed considerably, especially for walleyes.  This has pretty much been the case for all area lakes.  Nothing much to report on that end.  A few little ones have been caught sporadically, but nothing consistent like in the spring and fall.  If anybody really wants to work and catch some walleyes right now on Thunder, I think trolling or casting with crankbaits at night is probably the way to go.

Largemouth and smallmouth bass are still being caught along with panfish.  Suspended crappies are being caught on small jigs in 18-30 feet of water.  The bass are biting on soft plastics with slower presentations.  However, certain nights have also produced a topwater bite on poppers and buzz baits.  Bass and all panfish will still hit a live bait bobber rig on any day.

Surprisingly though, northern pike action picked up a little in the last couple weeks as we had a few guests bring in some nice-sized pike.  As many of you know, Thunder Lake is not known for producing a whole lot of northerns, but the ones that are caught are usually big fish.  A 36 inch pike was caught and released by our guests in Cottage #10 two weeks ago.  That was the biggest fish reported this year at the resort.

Stay tuned for the fall fishing reports in September and October when water temps will drop and walleye fishing will be picking back up.  I will be sure to keep everyone posted on how our guests do during that time.  I might even get out a little too.  🙂
