Snowmobile Trail Report (2-4-11)

Monday, February 7th, 2011

Reported By:  Larry Gavin – Longville Snowmobile Club
Date of Report:  February 4th, 2011
Trail Conditions:  Very Good
Snow Cover:  20-25 inches

SNOW CONDITIONS:
No new snow this week. It may be time to send a message to the big guy for a few more inches of snow before too long.

TRAIL REPORT:
Trails are still in very good condition. Trails continue to be groomed on a regular schedule of Monday/Tuesday and Thursday/Friday. I did see the groomer out on Saturday morning last weekend on the Chippewa South trail. Not many riders this week until today due to the cold weather. Riders I talked to say the trails are very nice. Small section of logging on the Chippewa South trail (1/8 of a mile) and on the Triville trail just north of hwy 200. Several riders I talked to today told me the Chippewa West trail is the best it’s been in years.

Snowmobile Trail Report (1-20-11)

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

Reported By:  Larry Gavin – Longville Snowmobile Club
Date of Report:  January 20th, 2011
Trail Conditions:  Excellent
Snow Cover:  25-30 inches

AREA REPORT: We received 6-8 inches of new snow last weeked which just adds to the snow we already had. I don’t recall having this much snow on the ground this time of year since the mid 90’s.

TRAIL REPORT: Trails continue to be in excellent condition. They’re being groomed on a regular schedule of Monday/Tuesday and Thursday/Friday. I was told by the groomers they will be out early Saturday if necessary to get the more heavily traveled areas of the trails. Haven’t been a lot of riders this week due to the cold weather, so the trails should be in good condition this weekend. The few brave souls I have talked to this week say the trails are great.

Snowmobile Trail Report (1-3-11)

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011

Reported By:  Larry Gavin – Longville Snowmobile Club
Date of Report:  January 3rd, 2011
Trail Conditions:  Excellent
Snow Cover:  20-25 inches

AREA REPORT: Snow Conditions – I’ve got great news. We had 10-12 inches of new snow fall late last week.
Snow was sticky which should provide the trails with a great base.

TRAIL REPORT: We had a lot of riders over the past holiday week. Trails are being groomed on a schedule of Monday/Tuesday and again Thursday/Friday. With the new snow, the trails will be as good as they’ve been for some time over the next few weeks. There’s logging on the Chippewa West, South and Triville trails, but only for very small stretches. Nows the time to come up and enjoy the trails!!

May Days

Friday, May 7th, 2010

Because of the cooler weather recently, surface water temps haven’t fluctuated much.  We are still around the mid-50’s.  However, there has been a pretty good crappie bite going on in most of the area lakes, including Thunder.  Some panfish and bass have moved up the shallower water and underneath the docks to feed and get ready to nest for the spawning season.  All indications are that the walleyes have been done spawning now for a week or two, which is far ahead of a normal spawning schedule.  Hopefully that translates into a better success rate for catching walleyes on fishing opener and for Memorial Day  Weekend.

Speaking of fishing opener and Memorial Day Weekend, it’s still not too late to book a last second reservation for either weekend.  We also have some good openings on other weeks in the month of May and June.  We still are running our special for stay 3 nights, get the 4th night free.  Check out our ‘Deals & Specials” page on our website for details.  We also still have some openings during the peak summer months.  Feel free to check our availability page if you are interested.

Cottage #9’s bathroom remodel is beginning to take shape and should be completed soon.  We also have decided to replace the kitchen and living space carpet area with a new wood floor.  It will definitely have a new and improved feel throughout the cabin when it is finished.  Cottage Deluxe and Condo #1 also had their linoleum replaced in the kitchen areas.

The wet spring has really greened everything up in the area.  The trees and grass are in mid-season form already.  The rain brought us a double rainbow that ended just at the end of our docks the other day. Thought we would post a couple photos of it for you. The second rainbow is fading a bit in the photo and isn’t as prominent as the other. Unfortunately, we did not find the pot of gold.  🙂  Enjoy!

Monday Morning Musings

Monday, April 12th, 2010
  • Had a great weekend of weather, with highs in the 60’s.  It was a perfect time to start putting in the docks, which we did.  We have all the sections of the docks in the water, with the exceptions of the wings.  A special “thank you” goes out to our friend Luke Rasmussen for helping us out with the docks this weekend.
  • Also had a chance to get a boat in the water and go for a ride on the lake.  Water temps on the surface of the main lake basin were around 44 degrees, while Stiner’s Bay surface temp was about 50 degrees.  Didn’t see a whole lot of action anywhere in terms of panfish.  I still think it just might be a little bit early yet.  If you remember last year, the crappie bite took off on Memorial Day weekend (May 24th) when mid-lake water surface temps were in the mid-50’s.  We are still a little ways off on that.  With weather forecasted in the mid 70’s this week, the water temps may improve pretty rapidly.  We will keep you updated on the water temps and any fishing reports we come by.
  • All the waterfowl have made their way back to Thunder Lake.  The otters have been active around the lake and we also heard our first loon call last night at sunset.  Still waiting for a resident to take us up on our wood duck house.
  • The telephone has been ringing quite a bit lately for reservations on fishing opener weekend and Memorial Day Weekend.  We still have availability for those dates.  Call now to make your reservation.  You can also check out our current deals and specials.

Thunder Rolls

Friday, April 9th, 2010

As of April 2nd, Thunder Lake has no more ice on it and the open-water waves are rolling.  What an early, welcome sight!  There will now be an extended spring panfishing season before the fishing opener.  I would say within the next couple weeks or so that the water temps will get to the point where the crappies and bluegills will start moving into warmer, shallower water to feed before they begin to start nesting and preparing to spawn.  I can’t wait to get out in the boat to try it out soon for myself.  We will keep you updated.
