Ice, Snow and Fishing

Winter is in full swing now after 8 inches of snow fell in our area yesterday.  Lots of the fluffy white stuff needed to be plowed on the resort.   This was actually a good thing as the snowmobile trails needed a solid base for the groomers to work with.  We would imagine the snowmobiling activity will start picking up this weekend.  A new snowmobiling trail report should be coming in the next day or two.

Last week, ice conditions on Thunder Lake were becoming much better as I measured 7-8 inches pretty consistently throughout our bay and into the channel.  There was only about an inch or 2 of snow cover, so moving around was easy on the ATV.  Had a chance to get out again yesterday and drilled a hole in the middle of the lake in about 50 feet of water and had 10 inches of solid ice.  Some smaller area lakes have measured 12 inches already.  It’s a little more difficult however to get around on the ice on an ATV now because of yesterday’s snowfall.  Better have good tires and/or chains for your wheels if you plan venture out on an ATV.

Haven’t heard much regarding actual fishing reports yet.  Didn’t get out and do any serious fishing yet for myself.  Still waiting to hear some word of mouth reports to pass on to the blog here.  We are noticing that the ice houses are starting to make their way onto the lake.  The snow on the lake now however has made it more difficult now to get houses out on the lake.

We’ll keep you updated!

Happy Holidays to all!
