Five contestants participated in the 12th and final Kids Fishing Contest of 2010 last week. Here are the results:
- Abbey Diekmann from Cottage #8 caught the smallest fish of the day. It was a 4 3/8 inch sunfish.
- Riley Diekmann from Cottage #8 caught the most fish of the day. She caught 10 1/2 fish! (yes, 10 and a half)
- Jacob Anderson from Cottage #7 caught the biggest fish of the day. It was a 9 3/8 inch rock bass.

After Labor Day Weekend, things get really quiet on the resort and on Thunder Lake in general. We’d say that’s the perfect time to getaway for a few days to relax and look at the fall colors from your deck in “sweatshirt weather”. Bring your fishing gear along because as the water temps cool down, the walleye fishing picks up. We’ll do our best to make sure we send you to the right hot spots on the lake so that you can bring home some shorelunch to the cabin. Ten contestants competed last week on the docks of TLL in the kids fishing contest for 30 minutes of hot fishing action. The awards were as follows:
- Simon White in Cottage #9 caught the smallest fish of the day, which was a 4″ sunfish.
- Santino Diottaviano from Cottage #12 caught 22 total fish, which was the most of the day.
- Nicole Sandstrom from the McCleary Cabin caught the biggest fish of the day. It was a 7 1/2″ Bluegill.

We had 8 contestants last week in the Kids Fishing Contest at TLL. Here are the results:
- Micah Bonick from Cottage #11 caught the smallest fish of the afternoon. It was a 4 inch sunfish.
- Mikenna Johnson from Cottage Deluxe caught 13 total fish, which was the most.
- Mikenna’s sister Madelynn Johnson from Cottage Deluxe caught the biggest fish of the week, which was a 7 1/4″ bluegill.

Five young fisherman competed against one another last Thursday in the Kids Fishing Contest on the docks at TLL. Once again, the parents were there to cheer them on. Here are the results:
- Sarah Fogelman from Cottage #4 caught a 4 1/8 inch sunfish, which was the smallest fish of the day.
- Ashley Clements from A-Frame #1 caught 10 total fish, which was the most.
- Colton Brown from Cottage #3 caught the biggest fish of the day. It was a 7 3/4 inch bluegill.

Four contestants gathered on the TLL docks last week for a very competitive kids fishing contest. Here are the results:
- Luke Meyers from Cottage Deluxe won the award for Best Perch Fisherman by hauling in a 7 1/2″ perch.
- Ryan Morrison from Cottage #5 caught the smallest fish of the day, which was a 4 inch sunfish.
- Nathan Peterson from Cottage #5 caught the most fish of the day. He caught 6 total fish.
- The big fish of the day went to Jordan Meyers from Cottage Deluxe, who caught a 10 inch crappie!

Last Thursday’s Kids Fishing Contest, which was the 7th of 2010, yielded 9 contestants looking for their catch off the docks at TLL. Here are the notables from last week:
- Cade Hatlestad from Cottage #4 caught the smallest fish, which was a 4 1/4″ sunfish.
- Charlie Katona from Cottage #7 caught the most fish. He reeled in 8 total fish.
- Brother Nick Katona, also from Cottage #7, caught the biggest fish of the day. It was an 8 3/4″ rock bass.

Surface water temps are around 75 degrees and the walleye fishing report has been strange lately to say the least. Fish have been hitting on crankbaits in 30 feet of water over 60-80 feet while chasing schools of suspended ciscos and tullibees. Most of the action for this method has occurred during the evening hours. Walleyes were also picked up by our guests recently in 7-10 feet of water adjacent to steep dropoffs on spinner rigs with minnows. These fish were picked up during all hours of the day. This is probably the most walleye action we have seen in the first week of August in our time here.
Crappie fishing is still holding strong and has been consistently the best bite all year. Numbers of crappies have been caught by our guests throughout the year on all sorts of different presentations. Right now, bobber and minnow setups in 15-20 feet of water have been producing the best.
A few northern pike have also been taken recently. Nothing huge, but numbers have been up compared to prior years.
Smallmouth and largemouth fishing continues to be great as well. Pretty much anything you throw at them has been working lately. The bass have definitely moved to deeper water and structure lately however during the warmer last few weeks. Deep-running crankbaits, spinnerbaits and jig ‘n’ pig combos have been producing fish.
