Thunder Lake Lodge Fishing Report (9-29-10)

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

Water surface temps are now down to around 60 degrees as the days get shorter and the weather gets cooler.  We have had abnormal east winds for the last 2 weeks or so, which definitely has an effect on fishing.  The weather has started to become a little more stable and normal for early fall.  The fall colors are absolutely gorgeous on Thunder Lake right now.

Crappie fishing has been great all year and has still been good within the last week.  We can’t believe how consistent the bite has been.  Little crappie jigs have been working over mid-lake structure adjacent to deeper water where the crappies are holding and suspending in 15-20 feet of water.  I have to also believe that bobber and minnow setups would still be a good option as well.  Perch, sunfish and bluegills still are being caught all over the lake, but not much for size to report.

Bass fishing for smallmouth and largemouth is still pretty good as well.  Our guests have been catching largemouths on spinnerbaits in shallower water.  Smallmouths have been being caught on topwater poppers and have also been being caught accidentally while fishing for walleyes with jig and minnow and lindy rig setups.  Both species of bass have begun to put the feedbag on to prepare for winter.

Walleye fishing has still been slow lately.  A few were picked up by some of our guests last week, but overall nothing too hot.  The water temps are getting to the point where soon enough I think the walleye bite will pop and the good fall fishing bite will be on.  I have been trying to get out myself a little lately to see when that happens.  When it does, I will be sure to post it on here.

Stay tuned.

Fall Special!

Monday, September 6th, 2010

After Labor Day Weekend, things get really quiet on the resort and on Thunder Lake in general.  We’d say that’s the perfect time to getaway for a few days to relax and look at the fall colors from your deck in “sweatshirt weather”.  Bring your fishing gear along because as the water temps cool down, the walleye fishing picks up.  We’ll do our best to make sure we send you to the right hot spots on the lake so that you can bring home some shorelunch to the cabin.  And hey, if you just want to get away and relax and do nothing, this is the perfect time to do it.  Bring your favorite book if you like.

2 bedroom Fall Special(Sept. & Oct.):
2 people – $129/night
4 people – $169/night
